    Housing Discrimination - Fair Housing

    The Fair Housing Act secures people from discrimination when they are renting or purchasing a home, getting a mortgage, looking for housing help, or taking part in other housing-related activities.

    The Fair Housing Act prohibits discrimination in housing since of:

    - Race.
    - Color.
    - National Origin.
    - Religion.
    - Sex.

    What Is Prohibited?

    In the Sale and Rental of Housing:

    It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions because of race, color, religious beliefs, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin:

    - Impose different list prices or rental charges for the sale or leasing of a residence.
    - Use different credentials requirements or applications, or sale or rental standards or procedures, such as earnings requirements, application requirements, application fees, credit analyses, sale or rental approval procedures or other requirements.
    - Evict a renter or an occupant's guest.
    - Harass a person.
    - Fail or hold-up efficiency of maintenance or repairs.
    - Limit benefits, services or centers of a home.
    - Discourage the purchase or leasing of a home.
    - Assign a person to a specific structure or area or section of a structure or neighborhood.
    - For earnings, encourage, or attempt to convince, house owners to sell their homes by recommending that individuals of a specific secured characteristic will move into the area (blockbusting).
    - Refuse to supply or discriminate in the terms or conditions of homeowners insurance coverage since of the race, color, faith, sex, special needs, familial status, or nationwide origin of the owner and/or occupants of a dwelling.
    - Deny access to or subscription in any numerous listing service or genuine estate brokers' .
    In Mortgage Lending:

    It is prohibited discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, or nationwide origin:

    - Refuse to make a mortgage loan or supply other financial assistance for a residence.
